What type of volcano is Crater Lake?

Crater Lake is a caldera, or a circular depression that forms as a result of a volcanic explosion. Before Crater Lake was formed, a group of mountains stood in its place. The mountain that Crater Lake is found on in this grouping is Mount Mazama. When Mount Mazama exploded 7,700 years ago, so much magma was released that the summit completely collapsed and formed a caldera. Mount Mazma is a statovolcano (and a composite volcano) with a caldera, Crater Lake, onto of it.
